Art helps Haymarket school 'journey' to Singapore
The article was featured in print in the daily paper called the News & Messanger. It also appears online on their website division which is called InsideNova.com. (NoVA stands for Northern Virginia. - approximatly 30 miles outside Washington D.C.) HAYMARKET, Va. -- A tiny Haymarket school is making a big artistic statement on the other side of the world. St. Anne’s Academy for Girls, a Christian school that opened this fall, will have 14 pieces of art displayed in an exhibit called “Journey” in Singapore’s Jurong Regional Library. The show begins Saturday and continues through March 18. “What strikes me to have an exchange with St. Anne’s Academy is the idea of connecting creatively,” Erman Bin Abu Bakar, curator of the “Journey” exhibition in Singapore, wrote in an email. Jaclyn Del Vacchio, director of fine arts at St. Anne’s, said she’d been seeking a new way to take her artistic lessons beyond the classroom but had no idea her pursuits would result in something so significant. The exhibit’s title is important, because it represents different aspects of the art program. “It’s the journey involved with developing a new program,” Del Vacchio said. “It’s the journey from previous lessons to new ones, and the different elements in art. And it’s a journey of where our program can go in the future.” To read more of the article, here's the link: http://www2.insidenova.com/news/2012/mar/08/art-helps-haymarket-school-journey-singapore-ar-1749994/ |
